We had the good fortune of connecting with Ingrid Tucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ingrid, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Successful work life balance for me starts with a plan. I am a planner by nature, and I have always loved Benjamin Franklin’s quote, “if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” Along with being an entrepreneur, I am a wife and mom of three! In order to balance each of these roles, I need to strategically plan out my days and continue to focus on my end goal. As a mom, it is interesting to look back over the seasons in life, from raising babies to now preteens. How I prioritize my time definitely has shifted as my kids have grown. More recently than ever with the unexpected situation surrounding COVID, I feel the balance between work and family responsibilities has been thrust into the forefront for all of our lives. Personally, making the sudden shift to home school my kids for the remainder of their school year definitely caught me by surprise! Adding this element into my daily routine forced me to make sacrifices in other areas, such as my work. I had to structure my days to allow my children the time they needed first, and then attempt to begin my work day. Family always comes first! Looking forward, I know I will need to continue to carefully balance out my time in order to feel fulfilled in each of my roles.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Prior to working in Commercial Real Estate, I worked for Mark-Taylor Residential for 15 years. Working for Mark-Taylor shaped me as a business professional, and I gained an abundance of knowledge that has transferred into my role as a Commercial Real Estate Advisor. I was always attracted to their new development projects and working with each owner, assisting them to reach their goals for their communities. My last project with Mark-Taylor was to oversee a new development project, District Lofts, in Downtown Gilbert. I call Gilbert “home”, so that project was very special to me. It was the experiences I had with the developer of that project that peaked my interest into the world of Commercial Real Estate. I took a risk and changed career paths. I have not looked back! Commercial Real Estate is my passion. Currently, I work for SVN Desert Commercial Advisors, and I specialize in retail sales. I specifically chose this brokerage to work with Mary Nollenberger and Nicole Ridberg on their retail team. There are very few women in this industry, and it has been wonderful to have two strong women as team members. Open communication and building trusting relationships with my clients is very important to me. It is very rewarding to help my clients accomplish their Commercial Real Estate goals.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever friends are in town, my husband and I love to take them to Downtown Gilbert! We would consider ourselves foodies, and there are many excellent restaurants to choose from. A few of our favorites are Zinburger, Postino, Sushi Brokers, Liberty Market and Nico Heirloom Kitchen. Honestly, you really can’t go wrong with any of the restaurant choices you’ll find there. I find the charm of Downtown Gilbert so appealing. It is always fun to stroll down Gilbert road or mingle and shop at the Farmer’s market on a Saturday. When we venture out of Gilbert, we love to go to Steak 44 in Phoenix. There is not much that compares to the dining experience you get there. I love to dress up and make a night of it! Other than going out on the town, you will find my family lounging by our pool. My husband is a great cook and loves to entertain our friends poolside.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My first shoutout goes to my amazing husband Matthew! He has been my biggest supporter and has always believed in me. When I decided to leave my career of 15 years and completely change career paths, he has been rooting me on. He always tells me how proud of me he is and that he knows I will be successful an achieve the goals I have set for myself. On the days when I have a little self-doubt for taking a leap of faith and becoming an entrepreneur, he is there to encourage me. Matthew, I love you and your heart so much! My next shoutout goes to Melissa Swader, Director of Marketing & PR for SVN Desert Commercial Advisors. Melissa is very passionate about her craft and always willing to provide insight or direction. Working in a primarily male dominated field, Melissa has constantly shown her support for me. Melissa is the creator of the Women in Commercial Real Estate page on Facebook, which I have found to be very valuable resource. I am lucky to work with her!
