Phoenix, Arizona – February 26, 2016 – Scottsdale 20/30 Foundation has organized an annual Commercial Real Estate event year after year called Brokers for Kids and once again, the big event will be held on April 8th at the Scottsdale Stadium; home of the San Francisco Giants.  The fundraising Olympiad event will help raise money for the foundations main beneficiary Boys Hope, Girls Hope.  Attorney at Law and 20/30 member, Jose Leon is this year’s Event Chairman leading the event.  The Olympiad games will also have many other 20/30 member representatives helping with scorekeeping on all the physical sports challenges, which include basketball, bocce ball, corn hole bags and the football toss just to name a few. The brokerage team winner will take home the infamous “Olympiad Cup” and of course, bragging rights.

Although the local real estate community loves to come together to compete in the physical challenges against other brokerages, every player there knows the significance of the event.  Recently the team captains of each brokerage were invited to spend some time visiting one of the “Girl’s Houses” located in Central Phoenix.  Everyone was greeted warmly by the girls living in the house, where they offered to give everyone tours of the home.  There are a total of 8 girls currently living in the house and their bedrooms are stacked with bunk beds, school colors or posters of their favorite artist or sports team.  There is also a place in the house for private tutoring; a kitchen list of assigned chores, and their favorite, the outside artificially-grassed full volleyball court. The house itself is supervised by three (3) residential counselors that work directly with the girl’s home. Two of the counselors live in the home full-time.

Most of the kids attend St. Francis or Xavier Catholic School.  The boys who were also visiting the house mostly attend Brophy College Preparatory, which are located right behind each other.  Xavier sophomore, Genesis Canizales spoke nervously in front of the large crowd of visitors but graciously explained how thankful she was to be able to come from a struggling household of a single mom with siblings to living at the Girls House. “This is not just the girl’s house to me, this is my family.” Genesis emotionally expressed how the Scottsdale Foundation and the Brokers for Kids event has impacted everyone living there.  “We have opportunities that we would have never had before,” as she further explained that she intends to attend a university to pursue her degree in Biomedical Engineering.

Roberto Huerta, a sophomore from St. Mary’s High School was visiting from the boy’s house which is conveniently located only a couple of miles away in central Phoenix.  Before the meeting began, Huerta led everyone in prayer and said grace before dinner.  Roberto is another example of why the event means so much to these children.  They have dreams like everyone else. His dreams are to become quarterback next year as a junior on the Knights football team.  After he graduates, he wants to attend Notre Dame University to purse his degree in Engineering. He said that he also loves to play the guitar with his roommate when they can.  A few days later while attending another event, Roberto was seen participating in weight lifting with the St. Mary’s Knights football team where the Extreme Speed training facility is located in North Phoenix. The boy’s house allows the kids to be involved in extracurricular activities with their schools. Most of all, they are developing life skills that they need to be successful.

For so many reasons this is why the Brokers for Kids Olympiad fundraising event is so important for the Boys Hope, Girls Hope organization.  It not only provides the financial assistance towards a better education, it gives these children “Hope” that they will make a difference.

The Olympiad event still has sponsorships available.  If anyone would like to sponsor the event, donate, or simply purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a brand new 2016 Toyota or $15,000 cash-out option, contact SVN, Desert Commercial Advisors at 480-425-5501 or email to: melissa.swader@svn.com
